Chickens are incredibly beautiful animals! The above breeds, Gold Sebright, Light Sussex, Orpington, & Phoenix, are featured in National Geographic's image gallery of uncommon breeds.

pop-up flower shop at Anthropologie!

Exciting news! My amazing friend Erin will be having a pop-up flower shop at the Anthropologie in Chelsea starting this Saturday!
To indulge yourself with the happiness that flowers bring (which I highly recommend,) stop by Anthropologie in Chelsea Market on Saturdays or the Brooklyn Flea on Sundays to see her beautiful, earthy arrangements. I am so proud!

the witch of portobello

I'll understand that in order to combat ghosts, you must use weapons that form no part of reality.  Then, following the advice of my grandmother, I'll place an open pair of scissor on my bedside table to snip off the end of the dream.

devon caranicas

Visual artist (& old friend) Devon Caranicas takes amazingly thought-provoking photos.  Look through her tumblr to see her edgy, youthful eye--it's full of intriguing moments of her current life in Berlin as well as her previous dwellings of California & New York City.  Visuals of her travels are also included. The three dreamy photos above are from her trip to the Baltic Sea region.  Definitely check her out!

the shell has to be cracked

You always knew how to enjoy a lover,
whether crayfish or lobster, the shell has
to be cracked, you said, it's impossible
to love & stay
whole.

White Gate Vineyards

White Gate Vineyards is a small vineyard my father cultivated on Block Island, Rhode Island. With no professional training or help, he did everything from clearing the land to planting, maintaining, & harvesting.  After 10 years of tedious & dedicated work, he made his first bottle of wine in 2008 (our garage serves as the facility for this.)  How he found time to do this while maintaining his corporate job is beyond comprehension! In any event, the White Gate world he has created (named for his former side hobby of gate-making...see photos below) is absolutely gorgeous & charming. The cases of homegrown & produced wine are an added bonus to this beauty. More about his appellation, Falaises (which means 'cliffs' in French,) to come.

things that are beautiful

Much of my inspiration to start this blog came from a folder on my computer called "things that are beautiful" which I created a couple of years ago before I had any intention of blogging.  This folder is filled with images from around the web that I've collected for various reasons--it's my digital inspiration board.  Here are some selections from the folder that involve people as subjects--enjoy!
